What is micro TESE?

Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro TESE) is a sperm retrieval operation used to treat infertility in males with no sperm in their semen due to testis failure (non-obstructive azoospermia).

It is a biopsy of the testis in which the tissue to be removed is pinpointed using an advanced operative micro dissecting microscope.

For whom is micro TESE useful?

Micro TESE India is a ray of hope for men who have infertility. We are one of the top IVF centres globally that perform microdissection testicular sperm extraction in India.

Many people who have been unable to obtain sperm using TESA visit our centre for treatment. We have helped them retrieve sperm with micro TESE and successfully conceive a baby using their own sperm.

People with the following male infertility issues can benefit from micro TESE :

  • Non-obstructive azoospermia: There is no sperm in the ejaculate due to impaired sperm production.
  • Severe oligoasthenozoospermia with high sperm DNA fragmentation: The semen has few weak sperms, with most of them having damaged DNA.
  • Severe oligo teratozoospermia: Extremely few sperm in the ejaculate from which only some appear normal.

What is the procedure for micro TESE?

Before we begin the surgery, we will put you under general anesthesia.

Our doctor will make a very small incision in the midline of your scrotum to perform the surgery. The doctor will use this incision to open your testicles and examine them under a high-powered operating microscope for enlarged seminiferous tubules that may contain sperm.

Next, we will extract a tissue sample from the tubules of one testicle. The testis will be closed with extremely small sutures to stop any bleeding. We will do the same thing with the other testicle.

We will close all the tissue layers that we opened to enter your scrotum after collecting tissue samples. You will have a suture that dissolves on its own over time and leaves little or no scarring.

We will then give your tissue sample to our andrology technologist, who will analyze it under a standard microscope to check if it contains any sperm. If sperm are found in your tissues, our technician will extract them and freeze them in liquid nitrogen. After that, you can use your sperm for IVF or ICSI.

Being a day-care procedure, you will mostly be allowed to go home the same day.

Recovery after micro TESE procedure

As the scrotum is one of the body’s fastest healing areas, most men recover rapidly and experience minimal pain following surgery. However, our doctor will prescribe pain medicine. The multi-layered closure approach helps prevent infections and bleeding in males following microdissection testicular sperm extraction in India.

What are the advantages of micro TESE India?

The goal is to cause minimal harm to the testicular structure, resulting in fewer complications like blood supply issues caused by cutting small blood vessels.

Some of the benefits of microdissection testicular sperm extraction in India are:

  • Higher rates of sperm retrieval
  • Minimum complications post-surgery
  • Reduced long-term impairments in testicular function
  • Fewer complications are detected on ultrasound
